exit 31

"We live in an age when unnecessary things are our only necessities."— Oscar Wilde
This porch swing hangs in the most perfect and yet unexpected place out in the country.
The sun dances off of the leaves and across the bench, glistening against your skin -
the speckled light bending across the lines of your body as you
sway back and forth in the cool breeze - a reminder that fall is not far off.
And oh how I cannot wait to sit there once the leaves magically
change colors along the mountain side, eventually falling and covering the ground
in a thousand colorful childhood memories of pumpkin patches and apple cider.
The sound of rustling leaves and nothing but nature.
And at some point you realize
there is absolutely nothing better than
sitting and letting your mind run wild
along the rolling hills of the Virginia country side.
To simply breathe it all in is the only necessity.

Robert Duvall (who lives just miles away from my parents house)
once said about northern Virginia horse country - "its the next stop before heaven."
And often I believe him.
