Locals

photo by Leigh  (I am really loving her stuff)

I might have a snow picnic tomorrow by the Potomac and pretend its Spring

The local news has been very entertaining as of late and so have the interviews they have conducted out on the street which include but are not limited to:
  • A man running in the white out with no shirt and shorts - belly and all
  • Several cross country skiers barely visible through the wind gusts
  • Brave/insane bikers
  • A woman in search of coffee with a fur hat and no pants
  • A man, beer in hand, in a lawn chair and rainbow umbrella sitting on his front lawn "watching the blizzard"
  • A newscaster attempting to unsuccessfully build an igloo while live on camera
I really don't think the local newscasters will know what to do with themselves once this is all over with.

Snow Fed Up

Ok. I am officially starting to go crazy. Today we were REALLY snowed in. The district was in a complete blizzard whiteout. Even the snow plows and salt trucks had to get off the roads at one point. Work is closed again tomorrow...so I am in desperate need of some sort of art project

I rearranged some things in my bedroom which sort of sufficed for today...but tomorrow I am thinking I need to sneak out to Michaels to get some chalkboard paint, canvas and possibly cork board...maybe my boyfriend will be so kind as to dig my car out of the 10 inches more snow piled on top of the two feet of snow already surrounding it?!

In the meantime, I am really looking forward to Modern Family tonight - thank goodness the cable hasn't gone out yet!

To date...

So far I have not had work since noon last Friday and will most likely not have work until Thursday, probably Friday.

There is absolutely NO FOOD left at the grocery stores and the lines wind down aisles and fights have broken out over what is left.

We are expected to get 10-20 MORE INCHES OF SNOW tonight and tomorrow!!!

The roads are maybe, MAYBE 50% clear and that is not including the additional snow we are about it get.

Everyone - including those I love - is getting on my nerves after being cooped up for so long. So, keep your fingers crossed that we are able to get out some tomorrow and/or Thursday...

The District Sleeps in White

Saturday morning I woke up to a white sheet covering the city
I have to admit that I was skeptical of the exaggerating local news anchors who had been
literally freaking out over this storm
but it turned out to be pretty legit...the biggest storm in history.

Two-Three feet of snow fell in less than 24 hours!
Rob helped dig my car out and we drove around the city
taking pictures. It was so peaceful and so beautiful. There were
tons of people out walking through the streets, sleds and cross-country skis in hand
- even a five hour snow ball fight in Dupont Circle!

The metro still isnt running above ground
and the federal government is closed again today...
I am starting to get sick of the white slush, but loving the day off of work.
