A weekend on the Cape

“Cape Cod is the bared and bended arm of Massachusetts. The shoulder is at Buzzard's Bay; the elbow at Cape Mallebarre; the wrist at Truro; and the sandy fist at Provincetown.”  ― Henry David Thoreau
Our weekend on the Cape:  ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard  |  I've never seen so many beautiful hydrangeas everywhere |  baby girl happy to be in her daddy's arms  |  lunch on the Vineyard  |  Vineyard sound  |  first time wearing his little girl (mama is normally packing)  |  Bird's first Salt Water's...size 0

I was really pulling hard for a chance to go to a movie with Rob on Friday night. A solid two hours together before 11pm is pretty dreamy. So, when he called that afternoon asking if I wanted to go away somewhere for the weekend I was so excited I could hardly think. I immediately started googling places within driving distance and asked a sweet friend who knows the area well where we should go....and in a few hours we were on the road, headed to the Cape.

On Sunday, we took a ferry to Martha's Vineyard and rented a car so we were able to explore all the little towns.

Considering Cape Cod is only an hour away, we are definitely planning to go back. We loved it!

imagine.

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
― Albert Einstein
We have sent in an application on an apartment in Boston [I would say more, but I dont want to jinx it]
and I've scheduled an appointment with the doctor I was hoping to get there...
so the pieces of our move are beginning to fall into place.

But before we make our way up North,
we are headed South for a much needed vacation.

As a parting gift, the weather here in the District is nearing 70 degrees today...
so my white legs are easing their way into those vitamin d rays.

I never would have imagined all that has happened over this past year...
but oh how thankful I am for every minute of it.

25 weeks...and another adventure on the way!

25 weeks and...we're moving to Boston!
Another exciting [and quite unexpected] adventure for the Davis family this year.

The past couple of weeks have been quite stressful to say the least.
A couple of days before we were about to sign a contract on buying our first house here in DC,
Rob was given a job opportunity in Boston that we decided
 [after much praying and contemplating]
we just couldn't pass up.
So, this family of three [with one on the way] is headed to Boston!

Its a little bittersweet leaving this city of ours...
but we plan to move back to the District in November
so we are so excited to live in and explore Boston in the meantime.

Here's to leaps of faith and life's many adventures and a plan
that is thankfully much bigger than we could ever design!!

our weekend plans

“Life is a series of surprises and would not be worth taking or keeping if it were not.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Peppermint ice cream, wrapping presents, baking cookies, a Christmas party, buying one or two
more little gifts, taking Lucy girl to the park, long walks....
AND anxiously waiting for that Monday morning doctor's appointment (!)

Hope you have a happy weekend!!

today's best fit: baby's first shoes

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!
As soon as I find out if sweet babe is a boy or a girl, I am buying his/her first pair of shoes...
I like all the stuff over at Freshly Picked...
but my favorite by far are the moccasins for kids and babies.
I wonder which color I'll be buying ?!!

[quite] a surprise!

“It is this broken road with pitfalls and sharp turns
and unexpected traverses that has brought me joy and adventure. ”
― Alice Walker
“Into all our lives, in many simple, familiar, homely ways,
God infuses this element of joy from the surprises of life,
which unexpectedly brighten our days
and fill our eyes with light.”

― Samuel Longfellow

rocks and little earthquakes.

"The safest place to be during an earthquake would be in a stationary store."
— George Carlin, Brain Droppings

Yesterday was strange at rather seismic proportions.
See, when you live in DC, your first thought when the building starts shaking
is that there has been some sort of attack.
But, all is well here in the District...little earthquakes is all...
just several picture frames and my favorite mirror suffered injuries.

But while the walls shook and the ground beneath me trembled,
I called Mr.D and was immediately thankful to have him so near.

As for today, its another beautiful low-80s, low-humidity day
and so far its been rather normal and delightedly so.

May Merriment!

"The night you gave me my birthday party...
you were a young Lieutenant and I was a fragrant phantom,
wasn't I? And it was a radiant night, a night of soft conspiracy
and the trees agreed that it was all going to be for the best."
— Zelda Fitzgerald
I am really excited about our celebration in May.

Our wedding was perfect, unique and very much just about us...that was the focus and the whole point of it.
It wasnt clouded over with expectations or some grand carried-away plan.
It was completely us...so sacred and dear to me.
[that story - the preparations and details - soon to come]

Our May celebration is setting up to be just as unique and lovely...except the focus
this time is on family and friends and an opportunity for us to celebrate our union with them.
I can't wait to see the dance floor set up in this very field.

Husband and I drove out to the country on Saturday to finish prepping the invitations with my parents.
We decided to design and do them ourselves  -
I have never stamped so much in my life and I am actually quite proud of our hard work.
They are in the mail today!

Best Surprise, Best Guy

Last night when I got home from work I had a package
waiting for me. A Diana F+ camera!!!
I am so excited and cannot wait to go test it out.
Soon I will be taking pictures that look something like this:

The best part about lomography is that you never
know for sure what the pictures are going to look like
until you develop them...and they almost
always look so dreamy and wonderfully surreal.
This guy is simply the best. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
